Srinagar, May 06 (KNO): Engineer Burhan Ahmad Wani, an accomplished Engineer from J&K Gazetted Engineering Services (JKES), has been accepted into the highly coveted Master's in Urban Spatial Science program at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) at the University College London (UCL), United Kingdom. UCL has been named the best university with Rank 1 in the world for Spatial Studies (Built Environment) according to the 2023 World QS Ranking, surpassing other top-ranked universities like Harvard, MIT, Cambridge, and Stanford. As per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Burhan's admission to the program marks a significant milestone for the Kashmiri community, as he becomes the first Kashmiri admitted to the program. CASA is a prominent research center in the field of urban science, smart city design, providing new insights and knowledge for urban planning, design, and policy using advanced geospatial methods and computer-based visualization and modeling. His educational journey began at Iqbal Memorial Institute (IMI) in Srinagar, where he was among the state's top-performing students in the JKBOSE for both 10th and 12th Classes. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, where he ranked second in the university and published several research papers in reputable international journals. Throughout his career, Burhan has been affiliated with several national and international organizations, including the Institution of Engineers (India) and the Indian Red Cross Society, and has added numerous awards to his tally. His passion for serving people led him to work in remotest parts of the UT, where he recognized the fundamental issues faced by these communities and how new technologies like Spatial Analytics, GIS Mapping, and others could help solve these problems. Currently serving as an Assistant Engineer in PMGSY Kashmir, PW(R&B) Department, Er. Burhan has been accepted into other prestigious universities, including the University of Leeds, and University of Southampton. The session for the programs will start in September 2023 and the officer has applied for the study leave—(KNO)
